Solution:-

Let, 'x' be the age of Remya and 'y' be the age of Sophie.

—› x + 2y = 28 ...... ( 1 )

—› (3/4)x + (1/4)y = 11 ...... ( 2 )

{To find age of Remya}

Multiply the eq. ( 2 ) by 8, we get

—› 6x + 2y = 88 ....... ( 3 )

Now, subtract eq. ( 3 ) from eq. ( 1 )

x + 2y = 28

- ( 6x + 2y = 88 )

- 5x = - 60

5x = 60

x = 60/5

x = 12

{To find age of Sophie}

Put value of x in eq. ( 1 )

—› x + 2y = 28

—› 12 + 2y = 28

—› 2y = 28 - 12

—› 2y = 16

—› y = 16/2

—› y = 8

Hence the age of Remya is 12 years and age of Sophie is 8 years.
