Step-by-step explanation:

let the age of son be x.

then father's age will be 3x

5 years ago,

father's age= 5- 3x

son's age = 5-x

5-x=4×(5-3x)

5-x=20-12x

12x-x=20-5

11x=15

x=15/11

x=1.36

Let the age of son be x
Age of father hence will be 3x
Now five years ago
The age of son = x-5
The age of father = 3x-5
Now , the fathers age was four times the age of son 5 years ago

Equation so formed now is
4(x-5)= 3x-5
4x-20=3x-5
Transposition
4x-3x= 20-5
x= 15 years is the answer
Son = x years = 15 years
Fathers age = 3x years = 3*15 = 45 years
