The dimensions of the rectangle  are 3 cm and 7 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length of rectangle be x

We are given that one side exceeds the other by 4 cm,

Breadth = x+4

Area of rectangle = Length \times Breadth = x \times (x+4)=x^2+4x

We are given that the area of a rectangle is 21cm square

So,x^2+4x=21

x^2+4x-21=0

x^2+7x-3x-21=0

x(x+7)-3(x+7)=0

(x-3)(x+7)=0

So, x=3,-7

So, length cannot be negative

So, Length = 3 cm

Breadth = x+4 =3+4=7 cm

Hence the dimensions of the rectangle  are 3 cm and 7 cm
