the average of 20 numbers is calculated as 35. it is discovered later on that while calculating the average one number namely 85 was read as 45. the correct average is

Given, no. of terms = 20
avg calculated = 35
average = sum/no. of terms
35 = S/20 (S = Sum)
S = 35*20 = 700
Now as 85 was read as 45, 700 include 45 not 85 hence removing 45 from 700 and adding 85 tobit give me the real sum
= 700-45+85
=740

Now new average = S/n
= 740/20
= 37

Hence the correct average is 37.
