The average score per inning of a batsman for certain innings was 21.75. in the next three innings he scored 28, 34 and 37 runs and his average thus increased by 1.125 runs. how many innings he played?

Let number of innings be xaverage of the first (x-3) innings = 21.75Total of the first (x-3) innings = 21.75(x-3)Average of the x innings = (21.75+1.125) = 22.875Total of the x innings = 22.875x21.75(x-3) + 28+34+37= 22.875x21.75(x-3) + 99 = 22.875x21.75x - 65.25 + 99 = 22.875x1.125x = 33.75x = 30
