The truth was Helen's understanding about the word 'love', which she had not been able to grasp for so many days. Miss Sullivan had tried very hard to explain the meaning of 'love' to Helen, but all her attempts were vain.Since Helen learnt everything by touching, 'love' was the first abstract thing she had encountered. Then one day Miss Sullivan explained to her that love was like clouds which she could not touch. But she could feel the rain, and know how glad the flowers and the thirsty earth became to have clouds after a hot day. Similarly, love could not be touched; but its sweetness could be felt. Without love nobody would be happy and wanted to play. This explanation helped Helen understand the meaning of 'love'.
This understanding helped Helen in realizing and feeling that there were invisible lines stretched between her spirit and the spirits of others.
