The blue bead - what caused the difficulty in getting such type of necklace?

The beads of the necklace were found everywhere in the jungle and Sibia were collecting them too but the beads were hard and had to be pierced with a hot iron needle but her family needle was damaged and due to abject poverty they could not afford to get a new one. Thus, she had to wait until her family got a new one which be after a long time.
