the brakes applied to a car produce a negative acceleration of 10m/s to the power 2 If the car takes 5 s to stop after applying the brakes calculate the distance covered by the car before coming to rest

krishna67: what is power 2
krishna67: write the full question...
ishaqbaig: it means 10m/s2

HI there !

Initial velocity = u

Final velocity = v = 0

acceleration = a = -10 m/s²  [ retardation ]

Time = t = 5 sec

Equation of motion :-

v = u + at

0 = u + -10 × 5

0 = u  + [-50]

u = 50 m/s

s = distance covered by the car before coming to rest

Equation of motion :-

s = ut + 1/2 at²

   = 50 × 5 + 1/2 × -10 × 5 × 5

   = 125 metres

Answer:

hi

Explanation:

Initial velocity = u

Final velocity = v = 0

acceleration = a = -10 m/s²  [ retardation ]

Time = t = 5 sec

Equation of motion :-

v = u + at

0 = u + -10 × 5

0 = u  + [-50]

u = 50 m/s

s = distance covered by the car before coming to rest

Equation of motion :-

s = ut + 1/2 at²

  = 50 × 5 + 1/2 × -10 × 5 × 5

  = 125 metres
