If the wire has double thickness, than the breaking of wire depends on the material of which it is made up of. so stress = restoring force/ area of cross section. 


the breaking force will be doubled if the thickness is doubled.

the breaking force is directly proportional to the square of radius of wire.

so when the thickness is doubled,the breaking force will become 4 times.
