Given:

2 bus fares is the same as 2/3 train fare.

6 bus fares and 8 train fares is Rs 1512.

To Find:

(1) And equation to find the fare

(2) The bus fare for 1 person

Solution:

Define x and y:

Let the bus fare be Rs x.

Let the train fare be Rs y.

Form the first equation

2x = 2/3 y

x = 2/6 y

x = 1/3 y -------------------------- [ 1 ]

Form the second equation:

6x + 8y = 1512 ------------------ [ 2 ]

Substitute [ 1 ] into [ 2 ]:

6(1/3 y) + 8y = 1512

2y + 8y = 1512

10y = 1512

y = 151.2

Substitute y = 151.2 into [ 1 ]:

x = 1/3 (151.2)

x = 50.4

Answer:

(1) The equations are x = 1/3 y and 6x + 8y = 1512.

(2) The price of 1 bus fare is Rs 50.40
