The denominator of a rational no. is greater than it's numerator by 6. If the numerator is decreased by 1 and the denominator increased by 1, the number obtained is 1/3 find the rational no.

let  the numerator be x then denominator will be x+6 then the fraction will be x/x+6

ATQ:

x-1/x+6+1 = 1/3

x-1/x+7 = 1/3

by cross multiplication

3(x-1) = x+7

3x-3 = x+7

2x = 10

x=5

numerator = 5

denominator = 5+6 = 11

rational no is 5/11
