As the square is circumscribing the circle, so length of each side of the square will be exactly equal to the diameter of the circle.
Radius of circle = 7 cm
Then, length of each side of the square = 7*2
= 14 cm
Area of the square = Side* Side
= 14*14
= 196 cm²
Area of the circle = πr²
⇒ 22/7*7*7
= 154 cm²
Now, area of the portion between the square and the circle
= Area of the square - Area of the circle
⇒ 196 - 154
= 42 sq cm
