Solution :

We assume the bigger number be r & smaller number be m,

A/q

\longrightarrow\sf{r-m=8}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{r=8+m......................(1)}

If 2 is added to the bigger number result will 3 times the smaller number :

\longrightarrow\sf{r+2=3m}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{8+m+2=3m\:\:[from(1)]}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{10+m=3m}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{m-3m=-10}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{-2m=-10}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{m=\cancel{-10/-2}}\\\\\longrightarrow\bf{m=5}

∴ Putting the value of m in equation (1),we get;

\longrightarrow\sf{r=8+5}\\\\\longrightarrow\bf{r=13}

Thus;

The number will be 13 & 5 .

Answer

bigger number is 5.5 smaller number is 2.5

Step-by-step explanation:

let let two numbers are a and b

a + b = 8

let ab bigger number

if 2 is added to a then the sum will be three times the smaller number

a + 2 = 3b

a =8 - b -equation 1

a=3b - 2 - equation 2

equating equation 1 and 2 we get

8-b = 3b-2

8+2= 3b+b

10 = 4b

10/4=b

2.5= b

so a + b= 8

a+2.5=8

a=8-2.5

a= 5.5
