a₁ = 3 x+y
d = x-y
a₂=a+d = 3 x+y +x- y
= 4 x
a₃=a+2 d=3x+y+2(x-y) = 3x+y+2x_2y = 5x-y
a₄ = a+3d = 3x+y+3(x-y)=3x+y+3x-3y = 6x - 2y
the first four terms are 3x+y, 4x , 5x - y, 6x-2y
