Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the first Indian leader to start an agitation for political reforms in India.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy (22 May 1772 – 27 September 1833) was one of the founders of the Brahmo Sabha, the forerunner of the Brahmo Samaj, a socio-religious change development in the Indian subcontinent.
He was given the title of Raja by Akbar II, the Mughal sovereign.
His influence was obvious in the fields of politics, public administration, education, and religion.
He was known for his endeavors to nullify the acts of sati and child marriage.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy is considered by numerous historians as the "Father of the Indian Renaissance."
In 2004, Roy was positioned number 10 in BBC's survey of the Greatest Bengali ever.
