Mahommad Bin Qasim, the first muslim invader in India, an Arab, defeated Dahir, a king of Sindh in 711 A.D. at the request of the king of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).

History of Sindh

The story begins with the orphan daughters of Arab merchants who travelled to Kerala and Ceylon for trade had died in dominion of the king of Ceylon. He was sending them to Hajjaj, Viceroy of the eastern province of the Ummayad Caliphate in Iraq.

However, the ship carrying them was attacked and plundered by the pirates at the sea coast of Sindh. Hajjaj sent a letter to Dahir demanding reparation. But Dahir replied that the aggressors were beyond his control.

Enraged Hajjaj sent an expedition into Sindh and made two attempts to conquer Sindh by sending Ubaidullah and Budail. But they failed.

Hajjaj deeply affected by these two failures sent his 17 year cousin and son-in-law Mohammed bin Qasim. Soon, Debul fell to his armies in 711 A.D. due to a treachery by a Brahman of Debul fort.

Qasim was called back to Iraq within two years. But his successors including his uncle ruled Sindh for two hundred years. But they did not or could not march further into Western India.

The actual Muslim rule (against Arab rule in Sindh) started in northern parts of India with Delhi Sultanate (1206–1526) dynasty which defeated Prithviraj Chauhan with Capital at Ajmer at the request of Knnauj King Jaychandra. He had conflicts with many Hindu rulers. Jaychandra was one of them.

According to a legend mentioned in Prithviraj Raso, one of several medieval Kavyas (epic poems) by Hindu and Jain authors, Prithviraj eloped with Jayachandra's daughter (Sayunkta), leading to a rivalry between the two kings.

Delhi Sultanate dynasty was followed by Gulam Dynasty and Mughal rule (begining with Qutbudin Aibak and Babar respectively) till the arrival of the British who had inherited undivided India from Mughals but quit in 1947 leaving behind the divided India. They also separated Burma (Myanmar) from India in just 1935. The Mughals and previous Muslim rulers never attempted to divide India, rather they expanded into more lands and united them.
