Given :

Force between two short magnets = f

Distance between magnets = 2l

To Find :

The new force of attraction between the magnets = ?

Solution :

  • The force of attraction between magnets is directly proportional to product of theier pole strengths and also inversly proportional to square of the distance between them
  • F = Ma×Mb / d²
  • When pole strength is tripled and distance id doubled

       F₁ = 3Ma×3Mb / (2d)²

       F₁ = (9/4) Ma×Mb / d²

       F₁ = (9/4) F

The force of attraction between the magnets becomes (9/4) times the original value
