The Grand Championship is a best-of-7 series, with the first team to win 4 games winning the Championship. Each team has ½ probability of winning any individual game. The Championship lasts 6 games, what is the probability that the Grunters win?

Shouldn't this work: 2( (5 choose 2) *(1/2)^6)

If it’s a “best-of-7-series” then how come it “lasts 6 games”? If it only lasts 6 games, the it’s posssible to end in a tie.

As far as a 7 game series, we need to be sure that the probability of 1/2 is independent of the outcome(s) of the game(s) before it - in real life it doesn’t seem to be.

If there is independence, then you can do the needed computation using the binomial distribution

But there is a short cut - if the two teams are truly 1/2 vs 1/2 then they have equal chances of winning the series. Expressing that as a probability is left as an exercise for the reader.
