The heart of a man pumps 5 liters of blood through the arteries per minute at a pressure of 150 mm of mercury. If the density of mercury be 13.6×103kg/m3 and g=10m/s2, then the power of heart in watt is :

WORK DONE BY THE HEART=PV

WHERE,P is pressure and V is the volume of blood being pumped.

therefore,P=hpg

here,h=height of mercury=150mm

                                           = .15m

p=density of mercury=13.6*10^3kg/m^3

g=10m/s^2

also,V=5000 i.e, 5*10^-3m^3

now, P=W/T=hpgv/t

where,t=60

therefore, putting all these values we get,P=1.7W

THEREFORE,THE POWER OF HEART IS 1.7M

HOPE IT HELPS
