An hour hand complete two rotations in 24 hours

Distance traveled by hour hand in 1 rotation =  2πr

Distance traveled by hour hand in 2 rotations =  2 2 \times 2 \pi r

                                                                           = 4\times \frac{22}{7} \times 4.2

                                                                           = 52.8cm

A minute hand complete 24 rotations in 24 hours

Distance traveled by minute hand in 1 rotation = 2 \pi r

Distance traveled by minute hand in 24 rotations = 24 \times 2 \pi r

                                                                           = 48\times \frac{22}{7} \times 7

                                                                           = 1056cm

The Sum of the distance Covered by their tips in 1 day = 1056 cm +52.8 cm

                                                                                         =1108.8 cm

Hence the sum of the distance Covered by their tips in 1 day is 1108.8 cm
