The question is wrong as the hypotenuse is the longest side of a triangle

Given:

∆ABC, right angle at B

AC = 2.5cm

BC = 1.5cm

To Find:

length of AB

Solution:

[Refer the attached file for∆ABC]

In ∆ABC [Pythagoras Theorem]

(AC)² = (AB)² + (BC)²

(2.5)² = (AB)² + (1.5)²

6.25 = (AB)² + 2.25

(AB)² = 2.25 - 6.25

(AB)² = 4.00

AB = √4

AB = 2

Hence, the length of other side is 2cm.
