They are traveling for seven hours at a rate of 55 miles per hour.  We have to find how much gas will they need to complete their seven hour trip

Now, we know that, distance travelled = speed x time

Distance travelled = 55 x 7 = 385 miles.

Now, number of gallons consumed = $\frac{\text {distance travelled}}{\text {distance travelled per one gallon}}=\frac{385}{30}=12.833$

Hence, they require 12.84 gallons approximately.
