The length of a hall is 5 m. If the area of hall is 84 m square. What are the length and breadth of the hall?

your question is incomplete..plz check it...length should be 5 m more than the breadth..

so the solution is like this. .

let the breadth be x m so the lenght will be( x+5)m

according to the given condition

area of rectangle = 84m2

x(x+5)=84

x2+5x=84

x2+5x-84=0

x2+12x-7x-84=0

x(x+12)-7(x+12)=0

(x+12)(x-7)=0

x+12=0

x-7=0

x=-12 and 7

since the breadth can never be in negative .

so x=7 x+5=12

so length of rectangle =12m

and breadth of rectangle=7m
