The length of a rectangle is 6m more than its breadth.its perimeter is 42m.write the linear equation for this data?

Let the breadth be 'b'
Length = 6 + b
Perimeter = 42
Perimeter = 2*(l+b)
42 = 2*(6+b+b)
42= 12 + 4*b
4*b + 12 = 42 OR 4*b = 30...Linear equation in 1 variable

Let us consider that the breadth is x m.

Then the length is (x + 6) m

Given, the perimeter of the rectangle is

= 2 × (length + breath)

= 2 × (x + 6 + x) m

= 2(2x + 6) m

Given that,

2(2x + 6) = 42

=> 2x + 6 = 21

=> 2x = 15, which is the required linear equation in x.
