The length of a rectangular plate is measured by a meter scale and is found to be 10.0 cm. Its width is measured by vernier callipers as 1.00 cm. The least count of the meter scale and vernier calipers are 0.1 cm and 0.01 cm respectively. Maximum permissibe error in area measurement is.

Maximum permissibe error in area measurement is :

• Given : Least count of meter scale = 0.1 cm

• Least count of vernier scale = 0.01 cm

• Length of rectangular plate measured by meter scale is, L=10.0 cm ± 0.1 cm

• Width of the plate measured ny vernier calipers is, B=1.00 cm ± 0.01 cm

• Also, error in measurement of length, ΔL=0.1 cm

And Error in measurement of width, ΔB=0.01 cm

• Area of the plate is given as, A = Length×width =10×1=10 cm^2

• Maximum error in area is, ΔA = ±(LΔL+BΔB)×A

• ΔA = ±(100.1+10.01)×10 = ± 0.2 cm^2
