The letter Shatapatre were written by Gopal Hari Deshmuk also known by his pen name Lohitwadi.

Gopal Hari Deshmukh was a great thinker, writer and social reformer of Maharashtra during the British rule in India. He wrote a series of letters under the pen name Lokhitwadi in a weekly newspaper Prabharkar. The letters came to be known as Shatapatre. In these letters he wrote about the social issues like child marriage, caste system, widow remarriage, dowry system and polygamy. He promoted women emancipation and education of women.
