The Greenwich Meridian Time is basically the time displayed by the clock at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.

Since the British were the first ones to come up with the idea of times zones and splitting a day into 24 hours, they names it Greenwich Meridian and it was later on adopted by each and every country around the world.

That is why it became the International Standard Time.
