So, basically, I've been stuck on this question for like 30 mins now and I * think * I got the answer but I maybe wrong.

So here you go:

If you just consider all the force that's acting on the blocks of 2kg and 4kg as f (because in the end, the net force acting on them is fixed), and then try to find out a1 and a2,

 \frac{f}{2}  = a1 \:  \: and \:  \frac{f}{4}  = a2

On solving further, we get:

a1 = 2.a2
