Indirect/Reported Speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: He said,"I want a new shirt." (Direct)

He said that he wanted a new shirt. (Indirect/Reported)

In the above example, when in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'will' changes to/would', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day', 'you' changes to 'I' and many other words will have to be made.

The man said to the porter,"When will the next train arrive?" (Direct)

The man asked the porter when the next train would arrive. (Indirect/Reported)

Hope it helps :)

While converting from DIRECT to INDIRECT SPEECH -

• Keep it in mind that the tenses need to be changed according to the reporting verb.

• The inverted commas need to be removed .

• There must be change of pronouns acording to the speaker .

• We need to change some words like -

Will - Would
May - Might
Shall - Should

Today - That day
