first we should arrange the data in ascending order =17,17,19,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,29,31,35 and 40

Total no. of student =15

since, it is odd number.

median=(n+1)/2

here n =15

=(n+1)/2

=(15+1)/2

=16/2

=8

median marks of 15 student is 8th observation

hence, median marks = 23
