48 = x1 + x2 + .......+ x10 / 10

x1 + x2 +.....+ x3 = 480

if each observation is divided by three,

then dividing both sides by 3,

x1/3 + x2/3 +....+ x3/3 = 48/3

New sum of observation = 16

New mean = 16/10

New mean = 1.6
