Given : The mean score and the standard deviation in the Statistics test are respectively equal to 80 and 2.5, whereas in the Mathematics test the mean score is 70 and the standard deviation is 2.

Liza got a score of 85 in Statistics and a score or 75 in Mathematics

Assume normality in both subjects

To Find : in which subject is her standing better

Solution:

z score = ( Value - Mean)/ SD

Statistic

Mean  = 80

SD = 2.5

score of 85 in Statistics

=> z score = ( 85 - 80)/2.5 =  2

Mathematics

Mean  = 70

SD = 2

score of 75 in Mathematics

=> z score = ( 75 - 70)/2 =  2.5

2.5 > 2

Hence In Mathematics  her standing is  better
