French were suffering from the dictating rule of monarch and the burden given to them by clergy ,church etc in order to liberate state from this they came up with idea of liberty equality and fraternity. So,nation was defined based on impersonal ideas of equality ,legal rights and secularism.French nation meant liberty ,equality and fraternity.
