There are different ways of changing singular words into their plural forms

If there is a vowel before y , -s is added to form the plural

For example - monkey - monkeys

key - keys, tray - trays, day - days

For some nouns the y is changed to i and -es is added to form the plural

For example - cherry - cherries

butterfly - butterflies, lily - lilies, candy - candies

Some nouns which end with -o, -es is added to form the plural

for example - mango - mangoes

mosquito - mosquitoes, tomato - tomatoes, potato - potatoes
