i) Monthly income of 7 households(in ascending order) = 1000, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1500, 1600, 10000

n = 7

median = (n + 1) / 2

= (7 + 1) / 2

= 8 / 2

= 4th term

= 1400

ii) Monthly income of 8 households(in ascending order) = 1000, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1500, 1500, 1600, 10000

n = 8

median = (n + 1) / 2

= (8 + 1) / 2

= 9 / 2

= 4th term and 5th term

= 1400+1500  /  2

= 2900 / 2

= 1450
