use y=u*t-0.5*g*t^2 where y is the distance, t is the time, g is 9.8m/s^2 and u is the initial velocity

u = 100 m/s
g = -10 m/s² in upwards direction
v = 0.

=> v²- u² = 2as

=> 0 - (100)² = 2×-10 ×s

=> s = 10000/20 = 500m
