The chairman of the Panchayat Samiti is known by the name of Sabhadhipati.

The panchayat samiti  at the block level is the intermediate tier of Panchayat system. It is intermediate between the Gram panchayat and Zila parishad. It members constitute the sarpanchs or pradhans of gram panchayats and the MlAs of the Block.
