The narrator had two options of avoiding the terrible storm clouds. Why didn't he use them? Was his decision of flying straight into the storm clouds a sound decision?

The Black Aeroplane is a mystery story where the pilot faced heavy storm during flying towards his home in Dakota. The pilot did not use the radio frequency and the compass of the plane because both of them were not working.  

Flying straight into the storm is not a good decision, but the pilot follows the same by the direction of other pilot who suggested him to follow his aeroplane.
