Answer :-

  • Orginal fraction is 3/5.

Given :-

  • The numerator of a fraction is 2 less than its denominator. If 1 is added both its numerator and
  • denominator it becomes 2/3.

To Find :-

  • Original fraction.

Solution :-

Let

  • Denominator be x
  • Number will be x - 2

1 added to both

  • Denominator = x + 1
  • Numerator = x - 2 + 1 = x - 1

The new fraction is 2/3.

According to question :-

⇒ x - 1/x + 1 = 2/3

⇒ 3 (x - 1) = 2 (x + 1)

⇒ 3x - 3 = 2x + 2

⇒ 3x - 2x = 2 + 3

⇒ x = 2 + 3

⇒ x = 5

Now

  • Denominator = x = 5
  • Numerator = x - 2 = 5 - 2 = 3

Hence, the fraction is 3/5.
