Let the denominator be 'x'
if the numerator is three less than the denominator=x-3
when the numerator is tripled=3 (x-3)=3x-9
when the denominator is increased by 2=x+2
3X-9/x+2=1/2
x+2=2 (3x-9)
x+2=6x-18
6x-x=2+18
5x=20
x=4
substitute the value of x in numerator and denominator
Numerator x-3=4-3=1
denominator x=4
the original fraction x-3/x=4-3/4=1/4
