Friction is the force which opposes the motion of an object/body which is in contact. The magnitude of friction depends upon the nature of the surface in contact.
Causes of friction -
When two surfaces are put in contact, the irregularities(ups/downs) of one surface get somewhat interlocked with the irregularities of the other surface. The surface should be rough not smooth. It is the opposition that we observe as the force of friction or just friction, between them. For example - A book is lying on the table. Because it has friction between two surface a table and a book. When we are writing with pen/pencil. It also has friction.
