SOLUTION

Let the denominator be 'x'

then numerator be x - 4.

Because the numerator of fraction is 4 less than denominator

According to the question,

we have to add 1 to both its numerator and denominator

\dfrac{x-4+1}{x+1}=\dfrac{1}{2}\\\\\\\implies\dfrac{x-3}{x+1}=\dfrac{1}{2}\\\\\\\implies2\:(x-3)=1\:(x+1)\:\because Cross\:Multiplication.\\\\\\\implies2x-6=x+1\\\\\\\implies2x-x=1+6\\\\\\\implies \boxed{\bold{x=7}}

Now we have to put the value of 'x'

Denominator = 7

Numerator = x-4=7-4=3

∴ Fraction is = \boxed{\bold{\dfrac{3}{7}}}
