Trees Have Life Too
The other day, I went to the park and saw that there were a few people looking around the area. I noticed that they had measuring tapes and books and pencils and were noting down something in their books. I sat under a big banyan tree to read my book in peace. It was my favourite spot in the entire park.
"They are going to kill some of us," a voice came from around somewhere closeby.
I looked around but didn't see anybody. As I was about to go back to my reading, the voice came again,
"Please, can you help us?'"
I was shocked, and as I looked up, I saw two eyes on the trunk of the tree looking gloomily at me.
"I am the leader of the trees in this park. These people are going to kill some of us to widen the road. We are all very sad. Can you help us?"
My shock and fear soon replaced sympathy. I love this park and I love the trees here too. I promised the banyon tree that I would help them and asked for a little time to think.
The next day, I came to the park with 30 friends from my school and two teachers. The men were back this time with their machines to chop down the trees. As planned earlier, we hugged all the trees that they marked to be chopped and shouted slogans "Stop Killing Trees. They are Our Friends". The men and their supervisor were shocked at the reaction of so many youngsters. Soon they called for a meeting and it was decided that the park will not be harmed but will be under the protection of the municipality.
I was so happy with my idea and I ran back to the Banyan tree. He looked happily and thanked me for my help.
