The pitch of a screw gauge is 1 mm and it has 100 divisions on the circular scale. While measuring the diameter of a wire, the main scale reads 3 mm and the 55 th division is in line with the base line. Find the diameter of the wire. Assume that screw gauge has no zero error.

=0.01mm

Given : Main scale reading =1 mm

Circular scale reading =0.01×47=0.47

∴ Diameter of wire = Total reading =1.47mm=0.147cm

Curved surface area = π×dl=π×(0.147)(5.6)=2.586≈2.6cm
