Robert Frost is doubtful that he will ever be able to come back to that crossroad again. The road he chooses would lead him towards a journey that may never allow him to go back. Its a choice that would have a result; and time, once gone by, cannot be recalled.

the poet here means to say that he even does not know that he will come back or not so he chose the road which was used less by people and kept most used road for another day by thinking that he chose another one
