The population of a place increased to 54000 in 2003 at a rate 5% per annum.
i) Find the population in 2001.
ii) What would be its population in 2005?

Answer:

(i) Here, population in 2003=54000,

Rate of increase=5%

and time=2 yr

Let the population in 2001 be P.

Present population=P(1+5/100)²

=54000= (100+5/100)

=54000= (105/100)²

=P×21×21

=54000×20×20

P=54000×20×20/21×21

=21600000/21×21

=48979.59

= 48980(approx.)
