Let the population in 2001 be P.
Present population=P(1+5/100)²
=⟩54000= P×(100+5/100)
=⟩54000= P×(105/100)²
=⟩P×21×21
=54000×20×20
P=54000×20×20/21×21
=21600000/21×21
=48979.59
= 48980(approx.)
