Let number of men in the population be x.

Number of women = (24000-x)

Increase in the number of men = 6% of x = 6x/100

Increase in the number of women = (3500-x)*9/100

Increase in whole population = 25620-24000 = 1620

Now, 6x/100 + [(24000-x)*9/100] = 1620

[(6x-9x)+24000*9]/100 = 1620

-3x+24000*9 = 1620*100

-3x = 162000-216000

X = 18000

Number of men = 18000

Number of women = 24000-18000 = 6000.
