At aphelion the distance from the sun is 152 million km ( farthest ). While at its closest at perihelion the Earth is 147.3 million km away from the sun .

The perihelion position is reached by the Earth on or about January 3rd every year.

The aphelion position is reached by the Earth on or about July 4 every year.
