The meiosis can be defined as the reductional cell division, in which the daughter cells have a haploid number of cells. hence, the meiosis result in the production of the gametes.

In the pachytene phase of prophase I stage of the meiosis, the crossing over takes place. This crossing over result in the formation of the recombinant alleles. At this stage, the recombination takes place naturally, so, this stage is important for the formation of the recombinant DNA.
