In India, most of the northwest parts and regions get huge amount of rains, mainly Punjab and Haryana.

The main reason is cyclonic depressions which often occur in the western part of the India.

Due to this, the chances of receiving rainfalls during winters are increased and most of the regions in north, including Punjab mostly get light showers often.

Explanation:

The states of Punjab and Haryana receive winter rainfall due to the Western Depression.

  • The latter is an extratropical storm originating in the Mediterranean Ocean causing rainfall in the northern parts of the country like Delhi, Punjab and Haryana during winter months.
